| COMMUNITY BOLEH!

Community Boleh celebrates the vibrant "gotong‑royong" (communal) spirit of neighbours coming together to support one another through shared assets, relationships, and collective action. Grounded in Asset‑Based Community Development (ABCD) principles, it starts with the strengths, gifts, and aspirations already present within the community.
Community Boleh celebrates the vibrant gotong-royong spirit of neighbours supporting one another through shared assets and collective action. Grounded in Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD), this initiative begins with the strengths, gifts, and aspirations already present within our neighbourhood.
ABCD is a strengths-based approach focusing on what is already possible. Instead of focusing on deficits, it invites us to build upon the power of relationships and local assets found in stories, associations, and exchanges. Guided by five core principles--citizen-led, asset-based, relationship-oriented, place-based, and inclusive ABCD empowers communities to grow from the inside out, creating spaces where everyone can belong and thrive.
SCC serves as an ABCD Learning Site because we view community work as a living practice. Our Family Service Centre is committed to learning alongside residents testing ideas, listening deeply, and adjusting our presence over time. Through this journey of practice and reflection, we deepen our work with families. We recognise that while programs and staff may change, strong, connected communities endure.

Our Gotong Royong Nights
One of the ways we bring this living practice to life is through our Gotong Royong Night series. As a signature community-building initiative, these events celebrate the vibrant "kampong spirit" by bringing residents together to foster the very social connections and collective strength that define a resilient neighborhood.
Each event in the series, serves as a platform to empower local talent and home-based businesses (HBBs). By featuring a "Pasar Malam" (night market) alongside live entertainment and interactive activities, we transform local spaces into hubs of celebration and mutual support. These nights are more than just a gathering; they are an active demonstration of community resilience, designed to enhance neighbourly bonds and ensure that every resident has the opportunity to contribute and flourish.

Goodwill Exchange
We activate our community’s unique assets through the Goodwill Xchange Platforms, turning everyday interactions into a powerful system of collective support. By moving away from a needs-based model, we focus on the abundance of skills and generosity already present within our neighbourhood.
Whether it is residents sharing technical expertise at our Bicycle Repair service, exchanging essential resources through our Request and Offer board, or bonding over heritage recipes in the Community Kitchen, these platforms foster a culture of reciprocity. Here, every neighbour has something valuable to contribute, ensuring that our community grows stronger, more connected, and resilient together.

Human Library
Community Stories celebrate the communal spirit by highlighting the steady resilience and assets of local families. These narratives, shared through exhibitions like "What's Strong, Not What's Wrong," showcase how individuals transform their futures through small wins, collective support, and a shared belief that tomorrow begins today.
Goodwill Garden
The Goodwill Garden is a community-led initiative where residents and members "sow seeds of goodwill" together. It serves as a vital asset for community-led activation and a source of deepened connections and associational life in the community. These shared green spaces foster meaningful connections and joy among neighbors.

Community Kitchen
Food is one of the best ways to get people together. The Community Kitchen, through Kitchen Connections, is ideal for gatherings, community events, celebrations, and a platform for our residents to showcase their cooking skills. It bridges the community from both rental and purchased housing, where individuals and families volunteer their time preparing or cooking food for our community events.
Bicycle Repair
SCC offers a "pay-it-forward" bicycle repair platform every Tuesdays, led by our dedicated residents to support those who rely on cycling for work or deliveries. While labour is free, please note that any necessary replacement parts must be paid for.

Request and Offer
Our Request and Offer Board, also known as the "Give and Take Board", is a community space designed to connect neighbours through the power of sharing. Here, you can post items you wish to offer or request things you need. By exchanging resources, we help each other fulfil daily needs and reach for our bigger dreams and aspirations.
